Week of September 20 – 26, 2026

Prereleases started Friday and the delay notice got longer instead of shorter, with Mexico now waiting on every Reality Fracture product and no date attached. A Secret Lair carrying more than $300 of reprints drops Monday. And the set's own Commander precon is drawing the worst reviews Wargamer has given one in years.

The notice that looked minor when it first appeared has kept growing, and it now reaches nearly every region, on top of last week's delay notice. North America has Collector Boosters, Reality Fracture Commander decks and Foundations Commander decks listed as partially delayed, with bundles possibly landing after release, while Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan and Latin America each lose some combination of Collector Boosters, bundles and Commander decks. Two cases are worse than the rest: New Zealand has Prerelease kits delayed with Wizards rescheduling events into the first week of October, and Mexico has every Reality Fracture product delayed with no arrival date and no reschedule date at all. A Chaos Vault email loosely confirmed a September 28 drop at 12:00 EST, with the usual prequeue opening an hour earlier. MTG Rocks is careful to say it is not 100% confirmed, though it calls the date close to certain. The draw is the reprint value, more than $300 of it (our guide to how Secret Lair drops work covers the queue and the pricing), with Esper Sentinel and Yennett, Cryptic Sovereign among the cards named. A leak posted to X shows what appears to be a store-facing product description alongside deck box images in both regular and all-Surge-Foil Collector's Edition variants, matching the style of this year's Marvel Super Heroes precons, which we cover in our Marvel precon upgrade kits. The list is Jeskai, built around casting Spider-Friends and replaying enter-the-battlefield abilities, with Peter Parker as the face commander and "Miles and Gwen" as the alternate. None of this is confirmed by Wizards, so treat the whole thing as a leak until it is. Read more →

First print batch Heartwood tokens for Reality Fracture came out of the factory colorless rather than Gruul. The practical problem is that it could convince players Karn, Gilded Guardian will not draw them cards while a Heartwood token is on the battlefield, when it will. Anywhere those tokens sit next to payoffs like Bloom Tender the confusion gets worse rather than better. Read more →

Draftsim's internal numbers show Germinate Recruits being taken earlier than every card in the set except The Theorist, Jace Beleren. The difference is that The Theorist is strong however you slice it and Germinate Recruits is highly situational, so the pick order is running ahead of the card. Card Kingdom published the full run of dates: Card Kingdom presale October 7, prereleases November 6 to 12, Arena on November 10, global tabletop release November 13, with MagicCon Atlanta and World Championship 32 landing the same weekend (every confirmed date is in our MTG release calendar), and all four Star Trek Commander decks shipping alongside. Sirius opened preorders for a premium dice line at the same time, with 55mm crystal spindowns of the U.S.S. Enterprise and a Klingon Bird-of-Prey at $54.99 each and blind-box Treasure Packs at $7.99. The product photos turned out to be the real story: they show tokens from the set, including a creature type Magic has never printed before, Romulan. Read more →

A player under the handle Noooras put up a tournament run with a Dimir Affinity shell carrying an infinite damage win condition built entirely from commons. The shell works the way Affinity always has, stacking cheap value artifacts and payoffs, with Cryogen Relic and Baleful Strix building artifact count for almost nothing. Strix is only in the format because it went Pauper-legal this month. Read more →

Wargamer's verdict is not hedged: Reality Fracture is an incredible set for Commander players with one important caveat, and the caveat is the precon that ships with it. A companion piece calls the Jace deck a glorious mess, something that will never make a best-precons list and does not play well out of the box. The same piece is clear that this is a deckbuilding problem rather than a card-quality one, since the list is full of individually strong cards. Nissa, Leyline Tamer inverts the archetype by handing landfall to every color except the one that invented it. The floor is landfall draw a card, which puts her in the same conversation as Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait and Tatyova, Benthic Druid, and the ceiling is a free Polymorph effect on the first trigger each turn. She is expensive to cast, which is the cost of all of it. Read more →

With the set effectively out, players have been combing it for combos, and the one that surfaced this week reaches a long way back. Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel pairs with Words of Worship, an enchantment printed exactly once, in Onslaught in 2002, and never reprinted since. Together they draw heaps of cards. Read more →

The mono-black list wins on a two-card combo where the first piece is the commander itself, Doctor Doom, Unrivaled, which can win the game with an empty library. The second piece is Demonic Consultation: name a card that is not in your deck and it exiles the library for you, turning the hard half of the plan into a two-mana instant. Commodore Guff, a Commander Masters mythic, moved from lows around $1.30 to $16.50 near-mint in traditional foil, a jump of more than 1,150%. The cause is Reality Fracture's planeswalker support, which gave the Superfriends archetype enough new pieces that players went looking for a commander to head it. Scarcity is doing most of the work here, which is also the risk: MTG Rocks notes that a bonus sheet, Secret Lair or Special Guest reprint would add supply and sink the price. Read more →

The Ur-Sphinx reduces the cost of every Sphinx by one from the command zone, which turns Azor, the Lawbringer into a five-mana play instead of a six-mana one and makes him a far easier include. Supply is the accelerant: Azor has exactly one printing, a Rivals of Ixalan mythic from 2018, and the base variant is down to around 54 listings. MTG Rocks expects this one to fall back once players have finished assembling their Ur-Sphinx decks, and to fall harder if the buying turns out to be speculative. Read more →

If you are cracking packs before the singles market settles, the top of the set's price list is where the value sits. Craterclaw Colossus leads MTG Rocks' rundown at $20.46, a red take on an effect Magic has charged a lot for before, and a finisher for any artifact-heavy Commander deck.
