All four Marvel Super Heroes Commander precons upgrade for about $10 each at the budget tier. Full builds run roughly $125 for Avengers Assemble, $176 for Doom Prevails and $189 for Wakanda Forever, with mid tiers at about $45, $66 and $25. The highest-impact single card in the whole set is Roaming Throne in Avengers Assemble, which doubles every Hero trigger.

Every Marvel Super Heroes precon plays fine out of the box, but each one is a little unfocused. This kit sharpens all four. For each deck you get the cards worth adding, the ones worth cutting, three price tiers so you can spend $10 or $180, a cart that loads the whole upgrade in one click, and the full 100-card list ready to paste into Moxfield, Archidekt, or Manabox.

Avengers Assemble

Jeskai (White/Blue/Red). Hero go-wide aggro.

Commander: Keep Captain America, Team Leader up front. He is the whole plan: flood the board with Heroes, then hand out counters, haste, and vigilance. Director Nick Fury is the alternate if your pod punishes early attacks and you would rather grind out card advantage.

Best upgrades

  • Roaming Throne. Name Hero and every Hero trigger fires twice. Nothing you can add hits harder.

  • The One Ring. Aggro decks run out of gas. This buys a protected turn and keeps refilling your hand. Worth knowing before you buy: The One Ring is being reprinted in The Hobbit.

  • Shared Animosity. A wide Hero swing turns into a kill nobody at the table sees coming.

  • Cathars' Crusade. Every creature you play buffs the whole team. In an all-creature deck the counters stack up fast.

  • The Ozolith. A board wipe hits and your counters stick around, then come back. Proliferate on top.

Budget picks (about $5 or less)

  • Heroes' Podium. An anthem for your legends that also digs a Hero out of your deck each turn.

  • Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain. Draws a card off nearly every creature you cast. She never stops.

  • Cadric, Soul Kindler. One mana, copy a legendary Hero you cast. Doubles your best bodies and their triggers.

  • Honor-Worn Shaku. Taps your legends for extra mana, and this deck is stuffed with them.

  • Flowering of the White Tree. Anthem plus protection from nonlegendary. Grab the non-foil.

What to cut. Cut Hero's Blade, Heroic Return, and Make Your Move first. Weak equipment, slow reanimation, and clunky removal your aggro plan cannot afford.

What it costs. Roughly $10 for the budget picks, about $45 once you add the mid cards, around $125 all in.

Full 100-card decklist and copy-paste import. Open the Avengers Assemble tab in the kit spreadsheet to load the whole deck into Moxfield, Archidekt, or Manabox. The reskinned staples (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Command Tower) are listed by their real names so they import clean. For the card-by-card reasoning, read the standalone Avengers Assemble precon upgrade guide.

Doom Prevails

Grixis (Blue/Black/Red). Villains, connive, and discard.

Commander: Move Loki, the Deceiver into the command zone and leave Doctor Doom, King of Latveria in the 99. Loki draws off villain combat damage and copies your best villain when he swings, which is a bigger engine than Doom's face plan.

Best upgrades

  • Cyclonic Rift. The best blue reset in the format. Overload it to sweep the wide boards Grixis hates while your villains stay put.

  • Demonic Tutor. Finds Doom, Loki, a wipe, or a reanimation spell whenever you need it.

  • Crucible of Worlds. Doom wants you pitching lands. This replays them from the graveyard for free.

  • Green Goblin, Nemesis. A Treasure every time you discard. Doom's discard plan turns into ramp.

  • Norman Osborn // Green Goblin. An unblockable conniver that flips into a graveyard engine and recasts what you tossed.

Budget picks (about $5 or less)

  • Doctor Octopus, Master Planner. A villain anthem that also refills your hand to eight cards every end step.

  • Carnage, Crimson Chaos. Cast it from the graveyard for two, so copies you connive or discard are never wasted.

  • An Offer You Can't Refuse. A cheap counter for the interaction the stock deck badly wants.

  • Bloodline Bidding. Mass villain reanimation with convoke for one big revenge turn.

  • Crimson Cowl, Master of Evil. Makes villain tokens when it attacks and doubles as a Loki copy target.

What to cut. Cut The Frightful Four, Klaw, Master of Sound, Damocles Base, Sword of Kang, Superior Foes of Spider-Man, and Helmut Zemo. They are in the box for the comic-book cameo, not the gameplay.

What it costs. About $10 for the budget picks, roughly $66 with the mid cards, around $176 all in.

Full 100-card decklist and copy-paste import. Open the Doom Prevails tab in the kit spreadsheet to load the whole deck into Moxfield, Archidekt, or Manabox. The reskinned staples (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Command Tower) are listed by their real names so they import clean. For the card-by-card reasoning, read the full Doom Prevails precon upgrade guide.

Wakanda Forever

Selesnya (Green/White). Artifact ramp, Voltron, and Monarch.

Commander: Keep T'Challa, the Black Panther in the command zone. Every attack makes Vibranium, big artifacts grow him, and you close as a suited-up threat while the Monarch keeps your cards flowing. Shuri is the go-wide alternate if you would rather flood the board than build one big body.

Best upgrades

  • Smothering Tithe. A Treasure off every opponent's draw. It ramps you and feeds T'Challa's artifact count at the same time.

  • The One Ring. The best colorless artifact ever printed. Protection, a refilling draw engine, and it counts as an artifact for both commanders.

  • Esper Sentinel. A one-mana artifact on turn one that taxes opponents and draws you cards. Nothing else in the deck does that this early.

  • Teferi's Protection. The white save-my-whole-board answer to wipes and removal. Grab the T'Challa's Protection reskin if you want the flavor.

  • Helm of the Host. Already in the deck, so keep it. It copies T'Challa every combat and your Vibranium covers the equip cost.

Budget picks (about $5 or less)

  • Sculpting Steel. Copies your best artifact and scales the count payoffs on both commanders.

  • Mind Stone. Cheap ramp early, a card late, and one more artifact for the count.

  • Sun Titan. Recurs the deck's pile of three-drop value pieces turn after turn.

  • Yotian Dissident. Grows every time you make a token, and you make Vibranium constantly.

  • Digsite Engineer. Turns spare Vibranium and extra mana into a steady stream of artifact tokens.

What to cut. Cut Divine Visitation, Whispersilk Cloak, M'Baku, Jabari Chieftain, and T'Chaka, Venerable King. The Cloak actively stops you from equipping T'Challa, and the rest are redundant once you pick a lane.

What it costs. Around $6.50 for the budget picks, about $25 with the mid card, roughly $189 all in.

Full 100-card decklist and copy-paste import. Open the Wakanda Forever tab in the kit spreadsheet to load the whole deck into Moxfield, Archidekt, or Manabox. The reskinned staples (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Command Tower) are listed by their real names so they import clean. For the card-by-card reasoning, read our deeper Wakanda Forever breakdown.

The Fantastic Four

Four colors (White/Blue/Black/Red, no green). Noncreature spellslinger.

Commander: Mister Fantastic is the one most players build around. His ability copies a triggered ability you control twice, which is the whole engine. Fix your mana first, then feed him cheap spells and payoffs.

Best upgrades

  • Fierce Guardianship. A free counter that protects your commander and still triggers your noncreature payoffs.

  • Misty Rainforest. A real untapped fetch, and fetches are the best fix there is for a four-color manabase.

  • Sword of Feast and Famine. Connect and untap all your lands for a second main phase of spells.

  • Rhystic Study. One of the two best passive draw engines in the format, and it slots right into the blue half.

  • Lithoform Engine. It does what Mister Fantastic does, copying triggers on repeat, so you are covered when he is off the board.

Budget picks (about $5 or less)

  • Storm-Kiln Artist. A Treasure for every instant or sorcery you cast or copy.

  • Archmage Emeritus. Draws a card on every instant or sorcery, and that draw is a trigger Mister Fantastic can double.

  • Monastery Mentor. A prowess Monk on each noncreature spell turns your chains into a real board.

  • Goblin Electromancer. Makes your spells cheaper so you keep mana open for the commander's activations.

  • Third Path Iconoclast. A 1/1 artifact on every noncreature spell for another cheap go-wide plan.

  • Arcane Signet, Fellwar Stone, Commander's Sphere. Honest dollar-each mana fixing.

What to cut. Cut Galactus, Devourer of Worlds, Silver Surfer, Galactus's Herald, First Family, and Evolving Wilds. Slow cosmic payoffs and tapped lands both fight a four-color curve.

What it costs. About $7 for the budget picks, roughly $44 with the mid cards, around $178 all in.

Full 100-card decklist and copy-paste import. Open the Fantastic Four tab in the kit spreadsheet to load the whole deck into Moxfield, Archidekt, or Manabox. The reskinned staples (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Command Tower) are listed by their real names so they import clean. For the card-by-card reasoning, read the Fantastic Four upgrade guide, in full.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to upgrade a Marvel Commander precon?

About $10 per deck for the budget tier, which is five cards under $5 each. Avengers Assemble runs roughly $10, $45 and $125 across the budget, mid and full tiers; Doom Prevails $10, $66 and $176; Wakanda Forever $6.50, $25 and $189. The budget tier alone is where most of the improvement comes from.

Which Marvel Super Heroes precon is the best?

Avengers Assemble is the most focused and the most beginner-friendly, and it wins games out of the box. Doom Prevails is the strongest ceiling once you move Loki into the command zone. Wakanda Forever is the most mechanically dense. The Fantastic Four is the most ambitious, a four-color deck and the first since 2016, but it needs mana fixing first.

Should I run Loki or Doctor Doom as the Doom Prevails commander?

Move Loki, the Deceiver to the command zone and leave Doctor Doom, King of Latveria in the 99. Loki draws off villain combat damage and copies your best villain when he attacks, which abuses every enter-the-battlefield and death trigger in the deck. Doom's face plan, discarding lands for table-wide life loss, is slower and easier to answer.

What should I cut from the Marvel precons first?

Cut the comic-book cameos that do not play. From Avengers Assemble: Hero's Blade, Heroic Return and Make Your Move. From Doom Prevails: The Frightful Four, Klaw, Damocles Base, Superior Foes of Spider-Man and Helmut Zemo. From Wakanda Forever: Divine Visitation, Whispersilk Cloak, M'Baku and T'Chaka. The Cloak actively blocks equipping T'Challa.
