Strange Academy is one of the four Marvel: Darkhold Destiny Commander decks. It is white, blue and black (Esper), its box features Doctor Strange, and it releases April 9, 2027. Wizards revealed the decks at New York Comic Con in October 2026. The colors and themes come from the product packaging. The face commander and decklist are not revealed yet.

Release day is April 9, 2027. Local game stores and TCGplayer are taking preorders too.
How will Strange Academy play?
The packaging lists two themes: Spellcasters and Blink. Blink means exiling your own creatures and bringing them straight back to reuse their enter-the-battlefield effects, a classic white and blue Commander plan. Wargamer adds that the deck leans on portal and dimension magic, which would tie in with the new Dimension subtype on Temple of Khonshu.
Draftsim expects Ephemerate and Archaeomancer style effects, and MTG Rocks guesses at a Sorcerer typal angle. Both are guesses until the decklist is out.
Who is the Strange Academy commander?
Not revealed yet. Doctor Strange is on the box, and several outlets call Doctor Strange the commander, but that is a reading of the box art, not a card reveal. MTG Rocks also warned that some early deck details trace back to a Reddit post that may be fake. We will add the commander's full text here when Wizards shows it.

No card from inside the Strange Academy deck has been spoiled. None of these is in the deck. They are main-set cards in Strange Academy's colors, and the Island art in the set features Doctor Strange.
The Darkhold ({1}{B}{B} Legendary Artifact, mythic). Tap it to add a sin counter and draw a card per counter, then lose 1 life per card in your hand. Its eight-mana ability sets every life total to the lowest one at the table.
Temple of Khonshu (Land, common). Taps for white or black and enters tapped unless you control a Dimension, a new subtype in this set.
Penance Stare ({W} Instant, uncommon). Destroys an attacking creature with mana value 3 or less. The flavor is the Spirit of Vengeance.
Card text is from Scryfall MDD card list.

The Strange Academy Collector's Edition (surge foil)
Every Darkhold Destiny Commander deck has a Collector's Edition, and its cards are surge foil (ICv2, ComicsBeat). NerdSnack and Draftsim report that all 100 cards in the deck are surge foil and the contents otherwise match the regular deck.
Price is the open question. Amazon US sells all four Collector's Edition decks together for $639.96, and its listing says all 100 cards in each deck are surge foil. No single-deck Collector's Edition listing or official MSRP has been posted. For comparison, Draftsim notes the 2026 Marvel Super Heroes Collector's decks had a $160 MSRP.
If you only want Strange Academy in surge foil, wait for a per-deck listing before preordering the four-deck set.
