Wizards announced on October 5, 2026 that God Packs are coming to every Magic Multiverse set, starting with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, and that foil commons and uncommons are leaving regular boosters. Last checked October 7, 2026.
God Packs start with Nauctis on February 5, 2027: the key facts
What it is: a booster where every nonbasic card is a rare or mythic rare.
Booster Pack odds: 1 in 1,000 packs, about one per 33 boxes.
Collector Booster odds: 1 in 300 packs, one per 25 boxes.
Starts: Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, February 5, 2027. Universes Beyond is expected in 2028.
Leaving Booster Packs: foil commons, foil uncommons and the guaranteed foil.
Leaving Collector Boosters: two foil commons and one foil uncommon, not replaced.
Name and price: Play Boosters become Booster Packs, and Wizards says MSRP does not change.
A God Pack is a booster where every nonbasic card is a rare or mythic rare
Wizards defines a God Pack as "an epic, rare booster where every nonbasic card is a rare or mythic rare card." The Booster Pack version holds one celebration card and 14 rares or mythic rares:
10 non-foil
2 non-foil Booster Fun
2 traditional foil Booster Fun
The Collector Booster version holds one celebration card, one foil land and 11 rares or mythic rares:
3 foil default frame
3 non-foil Booster Fun
5 foil Booster Fun
God Pack odds work out to one in 33 Booster boxes and one in 25 Collector boxes
Wizards puts God Packs in 1 in every 1,000 Booster Packs and 1 in every 300 Collector Boosters. Wizards has not published Nauctis box sizes, so the math below uses Reality Fracture, which ships 30 packs per Play Booster display and 12 per Collector Booster display, per ICv2, and six displays per case, per PokeBox USA's listings.
Product | Per pack | Per box | Per case |
|---|---|---|---|
Booster Pack | 1 in 1,000 | 1,000 ÷ 30 = one per 33.3 boxes | 1,000 ÷ 180 = one per 5.6 cases |
Collector Booster | 1 in 300 | 300 ÷ 12 = one per 25 boxes | 300 ÷ 72 = one per 4.2 cases |
One Booster box is 30 chances at 1 in 1,000, about 3%, and one Collector box is 12 chances at 1 in 300, about 4%. Those are averages: Polygon reports that God Packs are inserted completely at random, with no guarantee of one in any display, case, pallet or region. At Reality Fracture's MSRP of $5.49 and $26.99 a pack, per ICv2, the average spend to find one is $5,490 in Booster Packs (1,000 × $5.49) or $8,097 in Collector Boosters (300 × $26.99).
Booster Packs lose every foil common and uncommon, and Collector Boosters lose three cards
Booster Packs lose foil commons, foil uncommons and the guaranteed foil, and any foil that does appear will be a rare or mythic rare. Polygon reports Blake Rasmussen's figures: the chance of a foil rare or mythic rare in a pack rises from approximately 7% to 10%, and traditional foil Japan Showcase cards join the wildcard slot at approximately 1%.
Collector Boosters lose two foil commons and one foil uncommon, and nothing replaces them. Reality Fracture Collector Boosters hold 15 cards per ICv2, so a 12-pack box is 36 cards lighter at the same price. Rasmussen's own verdict: "How does removing cards make opening Collector Boosters more exciting? We'll be honest here, it doesn't."

Nauctis is the first set with God Packs, and Universes Beyond waits until 2028
The Wizards product page lists Nauctis for February 5, 2027, and every Magic Multiverse set after it gets God Packs. Universes Beyond is expected to follow in 2028, and Rasmussen told Polygon the reason is longer production timelines on partner sets. Our Nauctis release date guide tracks the set, and the release schedule shows what follows.
Foil commons and uncommons are what Commander players actually lose
A God Pack will not change what a Commander deck costs. The Cardboard Chronicles has the math: 1,000 packs already contain at least a thousand rares and mythic rares, and a God Pack adds 14. The foil cut is what reaches the table, because Collector Boosters become the only source of foil commons and uncommons. Draftsim expects those foils to be harder to find and possibly pricier, and Wargamer names Stock It Up as the kind of uncommon that gets "significantly more expensive" in foil.
If you buy one box per set, plan on never seeing a God Pack: a single Booster box misses about 97 times in 100 on the math above. Treat it as a bonus and not a reason to buy, the same case our Gleaming Gold Smaug odds page makes about a different lottery ticket.
A God Pack opened in a draft is removed and replaced, if the store agrees
Wizards' notice to stores says a player who opens a God Pack at a Limited event should stop and call a judge. Stores have discretion, but for events meant to feel competitive Wizards strongly recommends removing the God Pack, letting the player keep it, and replacing it at no charge with an unopened Booster Pack from the same set. At Regional Championships and the Pro Tour that is required. Casual events, a Prerelease included, may leave it in the pool.
MTG Rocks reads "at no charge" as the store absorbing the cost. On MTG Arena, Wizards says Store packs get "a take on God Packs" that will not be part of Draft or Sealed. Star City Games notes that Wizards gave no details for Magic Online.
God Packs landed badly because of what Wizards announced beside them
MTG Rocks headlined its October 7 follow-up "MTG Players Enraged By New Booster Pack Changes" and concluded that Wizards "really fumbled the delivery." Its complaints are scarcer foils and pack weighing: foils are heavier than regular cards, and the guaranteed foil used to mask that. Wargamer's headline says Wizards "quietly cuts cards from Collector Boosters", and it reports the main player concern as paper Limited. TheGamer calls the reaction mixed, and ICv2 expects box-break streamers to be "absolutely overjoyed."
