Every Universes Beyond set for two years has shipped with Commander preconstructed decks, so players keep searching for the Hobbit ones. They do not exist. The Hobbit changes the product lineup, and if you walked into your store expecting four precons, here is where that money actually goes.
Why are there no Hobbit Commander decks?
Wizards built The Hobbit as a smaller set with a different product mix: Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Scene Boxes, Welcome Decks, a Gift Bundle (September 4), and a pile of legendary creatures in the main set instead of four sealed Commander decks. If you want a Hobbit Commander deck, you build it around a main-set legend rather than buying one off the shelf. That is cheaper than a precon anyway, and we will show you the path below.

What are MTG Hobbit Scene Boxes?
Scene Boxes are the collector-display product filling the precon slot. Each box builds one borderless panorama from multiple cards laid side by side. The Hobbit has four scene cards total: The Five Armies Clash! and Fight With The Great Goblin appear in the main set, while Crack the Plates and Treasures of Smaug are locked to the Scene Boxes themselves. If you want those last two scenes, the box is the only way in.
Buy Scene Boxes for the art and the exclusives. Do not buy them expecting a playable deck, because that is not what they are.

Is The Hobbit legal in Standard? HOB vs HOC
Two set codes, two answers. The main set, code HOB, is legal in Standard (and everything downstream: Pioneer, Modern, the works) as of August 14. The companion set, code HOC, is eternal-only: legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage but not Standard or Pioneer. Check the set symbol before you sleeve something for Friday night. This mirrors how Star Trek will split TRK and TRC in November.

Where the Hobbit commanders actually live
The set is loaded with build-around legends in regular boosters: seven different Bilbos across this set and The Lord of the Rings, Thranduil, Radagast, several Smaugs, and deep Dwarf typal support. One warning for collectors: nine legendary creatures previewed during spoiler season belong to The Battle of the Five Armies Co-Op Kit, a 2027 product, and appear only in Collector Boosters today. Low supply, future product, inflated prices. Know which legend you are chasing before you crack packs for it.
