🗞️ Top Stories: MagicCon Amsterdam

The Hobbit Debuts With a $75 Dwarven Mox and No Precons

Saturday’s panel kicked off The Hobbit spoiler season, and Wizards came loaded. The Universes Beyond set introduces new mechanics (Recruit, Storied, Adventure, Amass, Ferocious), a batch of Dwarvish-language Collector cards headlined by a Mox Amber reprint, and two Scene Boxes (Crack the Plates and Treasures of Smaug) standing in for the missing Commander precons. The set releases August 14, with prerelease August 7–13 and MTG Arena on August 11. A Battle of Five Armies Co-Op Kit that looks a lot like the old Horde Magic rounds out the product line. We keep The Hobbit set guide: release date, spoilers, and collector treatments updated as previews land. Read more →

Reality Fracture’s First Look Reveals Jace’s Echoverse and the Lorwyn Five

The final in-universe set of 2026 is a “What If?” trip through a fractured reality of Jace’s making. The Amsterdam panel showed off The Theorist, Jace Beleren, the returning Lorwyn Five with fresh planeswalker treatments, their twisted Echoverse counterparts (yes, Tinybones is now Titanbones), and the five allied-color Hexhaven schools that finally answer the long-standing “allied Strixhaven” ask. Prerelease runs September 25 to October 1, with tabletop release on October 2. Read more →

Wizards Laid Out the Whole 2027 Calendar, and the Hall of Fame Is Back

The Preview Panel revealed all three of 2027’s in-universe sets at once: Nauctis: The Sunken Realm (February 5, a fully underwater plane with an apocalyptic threat lurking below), Kamigawa: Titanbreach (June 4, where Ikoria’s monsters crash into Kamigawa through the Omenpaths), and a long-teased return to Zhalfir later in the year. Wizards also announced the return of the Magic Hall of Fame, suspended since 2019, with this year’s inductees teased on the Sunday Pro Tour stream. Read more →

A Surprise Mystery Booster: Commander Edition Lands Later in 2026

Nobody had this on their bingo card. Mystery Booster: Commander Edition arrives later this year with 20-card Commander Draft packs and 59 new mechanical designs aimed squarely at the format. Wizards says it worked closely with the Commander Format Panel on balance, though a surprise extra set sits oddly against the stated goal of slowing the release calendar. It also lands before any of the 2027 sets, so it is the next big Commander product on the shelf. Read more →

The Secret Lair Reveal-a-thon Dropped Four Superdrops and a Unique Land

Four Superdrops in one morning. The headliner is the Stardew Valley Superdrop (“Superdrop of the Moon Jellies,” on sale July 27), anchored by a new colorless land, Stardew Valley, that taps your creatures for Food and draws by donating permanents, a slam-dunk for Food and Donate decks. The drop also repackages Wedding Ring ($10), a Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis reprint ($9), and a first-time Dawn's Truce reprint ($7.50), for about $29 in value. If you like tracking Secret Lair reprint waves, our May recap of the three Garfield Secret Lairs is a useful comparison point. Read more →

Magic Spotlight: Fracture Brings $50K Standard Opens to Hartford and Beijing

Wizards announced Magic Spotlight: Fracture, a pair of open Standard events built around Reality Fracture. Hartford, Connecticut runs October 23–25 (hosted by Star City Games) and Beijing follows October 30–November 1. Each stop carries a $50,000 prize pool, a non-foil Jace Beleren promo for every entrant, foils for the Top 128, and Pro Tour invites for each Top 8. No pre-qualification required, so it is an open door to high-level play. Read more →

🧙 Commander Corner: The Hobbit and Reality Fracture

The Hobbit’s Scene Boxes Are Where the EDH Staples Hide

No precons, but the two Scene Boxes carry the Commander goods. Crack the Plates leans hard into Food Typal: Bilbo, Fellow Conspirator turns any Food into a Treasure-making ramp engine, Fíli and Kíli, Joyous offers instant Dwarf ramp, and Ori, Plate Stacker is a selective artifact-and-enchantment wipe. Both pieces slot neatly into Thorin, King of Durin’s Folk. Gandalf, Party Guest does its own thing entirely, caring about combat steps and legendary Wizards. Here is what is actually inside the Hobbit Scene Boxes. Read more →

The Theorist, Jace Beleren Headlines the Reality Fracture Reveals

EDHREC and MTG Rocks both led their Reality Fracture coverage with the same card. The Theorist, Jace Beleren kicks off the set as the marquee new Jace planeswalker, and he arrives alongside the full Lorwyn Five reunion, their first appearance together as a group since Lorwyn itself. Blue Commander players will want to watch how his numbers land once the full card text is out, but a headlining planeswalker with this much hype rarely stays out of the 99. Read more →

Marvel’s Overlooked Commanders: Shang-Chi and Silver Surfer Lead the Sleepers

With 392 new legends in Marvel Super Heroes, plenty are getting buried under The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and Bruce Banner. Card Kingdom points to Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu, who lets your creatures tap for their activated abilities the turn they land (a nasty ramp enabler with mana dorks like Selvala), and Silver Surfer, Galactus's Herald, a colorless value engine that drags Galactus onto the battlefield. Both sit under 300 decks on EDHREC, so there is room to be early. Read more →

💰 Market Watch: The Hobbit and Stardew Valley

The Hobbit’s Dwarvish Cards Hide a $75 Mox Amber Reprint

The set’s five Dwarvish-language Collector cards are led by Mox Amber, a free mana rock already in 433,000 EDHREC decks despite its $75 tag. The Reaver Cleaver ($15) is a genuine Equipment-Commander staple that goes infinite with Aggravated Assault; Treasure Vault and Dwarven Warriors are minor. These are pull-rate reprints, not print-to-zero drops, so scarcity and foils could hold prices up. Read it as light relief on the Mox, not a crash. Read more →

Star Trek Specs Start Early as the Teaser Machine Spins Up

MTG Price took an early pass at Star Trek finance angles, noting Wizards is stacking teasers with two sets, The Hobbit and Reality Fracture, both landing before Star Trek’s November release. Preview-season spec windows tend to open now and close hard once cards are in hand, so this is the accumulate-or-wait conversation starting. Worth watching, not chasing. For what is actually coming, we broke down the four Star Trek Commander decks and their face commanders. Read more →

Stardew Valley’s Superdrop Lands July 27 With a $29 Value Line

Beyond the unique land, the Welcome to Stardew Valley drop stacks real Commander value: Wedding Ring at $10, a Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis reprint at $9, and a first-time Dawn's Truce reprint at $7.50. With a July 27 on-sale date, it is a two-week window to decide whether the art premium is worth it over cheaper existing printings. Read more →

How Many Decks Should You Pack for MagicCon?

With Amsterdam in full swing and more MagicCons on the 2027 calendar, Card Kingdom’s packing guide is a timely read: how to balance event decks against a Commander battlebox without hauling half your collection through an airport. Once you sit down at a table, the Commander etiquette hills players actually die on are worth a skim too. Read more →
