Mystery Booster's Rulebreaker commanders bend the game's oldest rules

Card Kingdom broke down how the Rulebreaker cards from Mystery Booster Commander Edition actually work: Whtz, the Bibliophile removes the 100-card deck limit, Semula, Light of Aysen lets a mono-white Angels deck run Angels of any color identity, and Tolabow, Loch Rascal got an errata before the set even released. Wizards' stated design goal, per Wargamer, is fighting "5 color soup". The cards are legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage, and the market noticed (see Market Watch). Read more →

Star Trek shows its hand: five Welcome Decks and roughly 100 cards

Wizards released the five Star Trek Welcome Deck decklists, previewing around 100 new cards at once. The split matters for constructed players: main-set cards use the code TRK and are Standard legal, while commander-set cards use TRC and are not. Wargamer's read on the common and uncommon Borg is that they nail the assimilation flavor, memes and all. The set lands November 13. For the Commander side of that release, here are all four Star Trek Commander precons, explained. Read more →

Pro Tour Hall of Fame voting closed after a seven-year hiatus

Voting ended August 6, and the class of 2026 will be the first since Reid Duke in 2019. New rules from William Jensen's MagicCon: Amsterdam announcement: selection runs on career top finishes instead of Pro Points, a 40-person committee votes, and a new class arrives every two years. The 48 current members include Kai Budde, Jon Finkel, and Luis Scott-Vargas. Read more →

Secret Lair stacks the calendar: Hobbit Superdrop and a Hatsune Miku Commander deck

The Hobbit's "A Marvelous Mathoms" Superdrop now has five revealed drops, including Sol Ring and Lightning Greaves in Smaug's Spoils and a seven-Food-token drop, all available August 17. Before that, the Hatsune Miku Secret Lair Commander deck drops Monday, and Miku now appears on more cards than Elesh Norn does. Not every drop is a winner though: MTG Rocks pegs the Album Covers Lair at $19.52 of reprint value against a $29.99 price. Read more →

Eminence is back, and this time it hurts you

The mechanic behind Edgar Markov and The Ur-Dragon returns on a newly previewed commander, except inverted: the command-zone ability is a drawback, not a bonus. Nine years after the 2017 precons made Eminence a menace, Wizards is trying the other direction. Read more →

The Hobbit is a deep typal set, especially if you like Dwarves

EDHREC's typal review counts more than thirty cards referencing creature types, anchored by a two-color "Company" cycle for Humans, Goblins, Wolves, Dwarves, and Elves. Card Kingdom's Commander review agrees on the headline: Dwarf support is everywhere, and white two-drops like Belladonna Took and The Queen of Dale are the early standouts. If the new keywords are still fuzzy, we have Storied, Recruit and Hone counters explained. Read more →

Every Bilbo Baggins, ranked and built

With seven legendary Bilbos across this set and The Lord of the Rings, Draftsim built them all as commanders. Bilbo, Fellow Conspirator is the one turning heads: he makes your Food also make Treasure, and EDHREC promptly stress-tested the engine with a top-10 list of mana-neutral Food makers. Storm off with second breakfast. Read more →

Battle of Wits spiked as much as 1,100% on a commander that ignores deck size

Whtz, the Bibliophile has no maximum deck size, which makes Battle of Wits a real Commander wincon for the first time. Draftsim tracked the price up roughly 600% and climbing, Wargamer clocked the Magic 2013 printing up 1,100% (15 cents to $1.80), and the Princess Bride Secret Lair version now sells anywhere from $10 to $50. Ink-Treader Nephilim jumped 589% on the first legendary Nephilim

Twenty years after Guildpact, Nephilim Epochal finally makes Nephilim typal a real deck, and Ink-Treader Nephilim moved from $1.45 bulk to a real price on the news. Just shy of 275 new decklists appeared before the card even releases in November. Read more →

Treasure payoffs keep climbing: Rain of Riches up 726%

Rain of Riches rose from $1.30 to $10.75 in two weeks as The Hobbit's full reveal put a pile of Treasure payoffs in front of Commander players at once.
