Federation Fleet is the Jeskai (white, blue, red) deck in Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek, and it is the engine builder of the four. Fronted by Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary, the face commander Wizards named on October 20, and themed on The Next Generation, it leans on Spacecraft and the station mechanic from Edge of Eternities: your ships enter as artifacts, and you tap creatures to put charge counters on them until they become serious threats. Picard's own ability word is seek out, a Commander-only trigger on the second card you draw each turn that adds charge counters to a Spacecraft. The set's new Federation ability word, which counts the creature types among your non-Borg creatures, is only on main-set cards so far, so whether this deck uses it waits for the decklist.
This is the go-tall, go-wide "build a fleet" deck. The upgrade job is to add ramp so your ships charge faster, protection so a board wipe does not undo your work, and card draw to keep the crew coming.
Heads up: Wizards revealed these decks in the July 14 first look and named the face commanders on October 20. Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary leads this deck. Full decklists are not out yet (as of October 21, 2026). Wizards previews Federation Fleet on October 27, and we will update this guide when the list is revealed. The upgrades below are existing Magic cards that fit the deck's announced colors and theme, ready to slot in when you get the deck. The set releases November 13, but Wizards says North American Commander decks may arrive after that date, so check with your store. Prices checked October 11, 2026.

How does Federation Fleet want to play?
Federation Fleet is the Jeskai (white, blue, red) Star Trek Commander precon, with Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary as its face commander, at $74.99 MSRP. The set releases November 13, 2026, though North American Commander decks may arrive later (Wizards, October 16). It builds Spacecraft using the station mechanic from Edge of Eternities, and Picard's seek out ability puts charge counters on them. Whether it also plays the set's new Federation ability word is confirmed on decklist day, October 27. Five budget upgrades cost about $5 combined.
Picard's seek out rewards drawing a second card each turn, and the Spacecraft want artifacts plus creatures to tap for station. That means your best upgrades do double duty: ramp that doubles as a body, token makers that give you more creatures to station with, and payoffs that draw cards as your fleet grows. Prioritize mana rocks, cheap Pilots and Thopters, and a couple of protection spells so a single Cyclonic Rift does not wreck your turn.

Verdict on decklist day. We won't call it until we can see all 100 cards; we'll update this the day Wizards posts the list.
Lands to fix first
Full decklists aren't out yet (as of October 12, 2026), so we have not seen Federation Fleet's lands. Recent three-color precons we have checked shipped with five to seven lands that always enter tapped: Doom Prevails and Avengers Assemble had five each, Forces of the Imperium six, and Tyranid Swarm seven. Expect a similar number here.
These cheap untapped lands cover Jeskai (white, blue, red), ready to swap in for whatever enters tapped. We'll update on decklist day with the exact cuts.
Adarkar Wastes (about $0.34): white-blue pain land, untapped every time.
Battlefield Forge (about $0.20): red-white pain land.
Shivan Reef (about $0.23): blue-red pain land.
Glacial Fortress (about $0.21): white-blue, untapped with a Plains or Island out.
Sulfur Falls (about $0.18): blue-red, untapped with an Island or Mountain out.
That is about $1.16 for all five. Prices checked October 12, 2026, cheapest non-foil printing on Scryfall.

Smothering Tithe (around $56). Table-warping ramp for a deck that wants extra mana to cast ships and the creatures that charge them.
Cyclonic Rift (around $30). The premier blue reset. Overloading it clears blockers so your charged fleet swings in clean.
Teferi's Protection (around $36). Phases out your whole board, so a rival wipe or alpha strike hits nothing while your fleet sits safe.
Shorikai, Genesis Engine (around $3). A Vehicle that draws cards and makes Pilot tokens every turn, and every Pilot is one more creature to tap for station.
Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain (under $1). Draws a card every time you cast a historic spell, and a fleet full of artifacts and legends triggers her constantly.
5 budget upgrades under $5
All under $5 per copy, checked October 11, 2026.
Sram, Senior Edificer (around $2). Draws whenever you cast a Vehicle, Equipment, or Aura. Cheap, relentless card advantage.
Sai, Master Thopterist (under $1). Makes Thopters as you cast artifacts and turns spare artifacts into cards, giving you more creatures to tap for station.
Idol of Oblivion (around $2). Draws a card each turn you make a token, which a Thopter-and-Pilot fleet does constantly.
Cultivator's Caravan (under $1). A mana rock that also crews as a 5/5, exactly the kind of double-duty card this deck loves.
Reckless Fireweaver (under $1). Pings each opponent whenever an artifact enters, turning a wide fleet into steady reach.

The Collector's Edition
Picard's flagship deck is the obvious display piece of the set. Every one of the four Star Trek Commander decks, Federation Fleet included, also comes in a Collector's Edition. Per Wizards' July 14, 2026 announcement, the standard Commander deck is $74.99 MSRP and the Collector's Edition is $159.99 MSRP. The Collector's Edition has the same cards, all in surge foil, with a borderless face commander. If you want the fully foil version of your captain and crew on the table, that is the box to preorder. Store prices can differ from MSRP.
Bottom line
Federation Fleet is the slow-burn engine of the four Star Trek precons. Add ramp, protect the fleet, and lean into artifacts and creatures. The five budget picks above sharpen the plan for about $5 combined, and Smothering Tithe plus Teferi's Protection are the high-end cards that let the whole fleet take off. If you are upgrading more than one deck this season, start with the universal 15 cards that improve any precon.
Frequently asked questions
What colors is the Federation Fleet precon?
Jeskai: white, blue and red. The face commander is Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary (named by Wizards on October 20, 2026), and the deck is themed on Star Trek: The Next Generation. It is the engine-builder of the four Star Trek precons, the slowest to get going, and the one that rewards ramp and protection most heavily.
When does the Star Trek Federation Fleet deck release?
The Star Trek set releases November 13, 2026, but Wizards says North American Commander decks, including Federation Fleet, are delayed and may arrive after November 13, so check with your local game store. The deck is $74.99 MSRP, and a Collector's Edition ($159.99 MSRP) has the same cards, all in surge foil, and a borderless face commander. Wizards revealed the deck at the July 14, 2026 first look and previews it on October 27.
What is the Station mechanic in MTG?
Station comes from Edge of Eternities. Spacecraft enter the battlefield as artifacts. As a sorcery, you tap another creature you control to put charge counters on a Spacecraft equal to that creature's power, and the counters stay from turn to turn. Station costs no mana. Once a Spacecraft reaches the number printed on it, it gains those abilities and, if it shows a power and toughness, becomes an artifact creature. Spacecraft are not crewed. In Federation Fleet, Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary also adds charge counters with seek out, a Commander-only ability word that triggers on the second card you draw each turn.
How do you upgrade the Federation Fleet precon?
Add ramp so ships charge faster, protection so a wipe does not undo the work, and draw to keep the crew coming. The premium adds are Smothering Tithe (about $56), Cyclonic Rift (about $30) and Teferi's Protection (about $36). About $5 buys Sram, Sai, Idol of Oblivion, Cultivator's Caravan and Reckless Fireweaver (prices checked October 11, 2026).
