Landing Party is the Bant (green, white, blue) deck in Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek, and it is the most welcoming of the four. Led by Commander Spock, the face commander Wizards named on October 20, and themed on the Original Series, it is a lands deck. Spock's ability word is strange new worlds, which counts the differently named lands you control: whenever he enters or attacks, you reveal the top card of your library and may cast it free if its mana value is at most that count. Landfall and explore look like the support theme (drop extra lands, trigger payoffs, and ramp a wide board out faster than the table expects), but that is confirmed only when the decklist posts on October 29.

This is the deck to hand a newer Commander player, and it is the easiest of the four to upgrade because land cards, landfall included, have deep, cheap support already in Magic.

Heads up: Wizards revealed these decks in the July 14 first look and named the face commanders on October 20. Commander Spock leads this deck. Full decklists are not out yet (as of October 21, 2026). Wizards previews Landing Party on October 29, and we will update this guide when the list is revealed. The upgrades below are existing Magic cards that fit the deck's announced colors and theme, ready to slot in when you get the deck. The set releases November 13, but Wizards says North American Commander decks may arrive after that date, so check with your store. Prices checked October 11, 2026.

How does Landing Party want to play?

Landing Party is the Bant (green, white, blue) Star Trek Commander precon, with Commander Spock as its face commander, at $74.99 MSRP. The set releases November 13, 2026, though North American Commander decks may arrive later (Wizards, October 16). It is the most beginner-friendly of the four and built on lands. Spock's strange new worlds ability counts differently named lands, and landfall and explore are the expected support until the decklist confirms them on October 29. It is also the cheapest to upgrade because landfall support is deep and inexpensive. Five budget upgrades cost about $4 combined.

Every extra land drop is a trigger, and every new land name raises Spock's count. The upgrade plan is simple: add cards that put more lands into play, cards that draw or make tokens when lands enter, nonbasic lands with different names, and one or two big landfall finishers. Bant gives you ramp, card draw, and protection, so you rarely run out of gas.

Stock or upgrade?

Verdict on decklist day. We won't call it until we can see all 100 cards; we'll update this the day Wizards posts the list.

Lands to fix first

Full decklists aren't out yet (as of October 12, 2026), so we have not seen Landing Party's lands. Recent three-color precons we have checked shipped with five to seven lands that always enter tapped: Doom Prevails and Avengers Assemble had five each, Forces of the Imperium six, and Tyranid Swarm seven. Expect a similar number here.

These cheap untapped lands cover Bant (green, white, blue), ready to swap in for whatever enters tapped. We'll update on decklist day with the exact cuts. One exception for a landfall deck: keep Evolving Wilds and similar fetch lands, because they trigger landfall twice even though the land they fetch enters tapped.

That is about $1.61 for all five. Prices checked October 12, 2026, cheapest non-foil printing on Scryfall.

5 powerful upgrades

Best cards regardless of price. Prices checked October 11, 2026, using the cheapest non-foil printing on Scryfall. They shift over time, so use these as rough guides.

Scute Swarm (around $8). The premier landfall engine. Every land drop can double your board of Insects, and it snowballs out of control fast.

Craterhoof Behemoth (around $23). The classic green finisher. After a few land drops your wide board becomes lethal in one swing.

Ancient Greenwarden (around $12). Doubles every landfall trigger and lets you replay lands from the graveyard. A landfall deck's dream.

Cyclonic Rift (around $30). Blue gives Bant access to the best reset in the format to protect your board and swing the game.

Field of the Dead (around $25). Turns a lands-matter deck into a Zombie factory that grinds any board to dust.

5 budget upgrades under $5

All under $5 per copy, checked October 11, 2026.

Tatyova, Benthic Druid (under $1). Draw a card and gain a life on every land drop. The glue of any budget landfall deck.

Oracle of Mul Daya (around $2). Gives you an extra land drop each turn and lets you play lands off the top of your library, so you hit landfall twice a turn and keep your hand full. It replaces Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait, which has climbed to about $12.

Felidar Retreat (around $1). Landfall that makes 2/2 Cats or pumps your team, a flexible token engine.

Harrow (under $1). Sacrifice a land to fetch two, hitting landfall twice in one card.

Evolving Wilds (under $1). A cheap fetch that guarantees a landfall trigger and fixes your three colors.

The Collector's Edition

Spock's Original Series deck is the nostalgia pick of the set. Every one of the four Star Trek Commander decks, Landing Party included, also comes in a Collector's Edition. Per Wizards' July 14, 2026 announcement, the standard Commander deck is $74.99 MSRP and the Collector's Edition is $159.99 MSRP. The Collector's Edition has the same cards, all in surge foil, with a borderless face commander. If you want the fully foil version of your captain and crew on the table, that is the box to preorder. Store prices can differ from MSRP.

Bottom line

Landing Party is the friendliest and cheapest deck to upgrade. Add more land drops, more landfall payoffs, and a finisher or two. The five budget picks above cost about $4 combined and immediately make the deck hum, while Scute Swarm and Ancient Greenwarden are the high-end cards that push it over the top. For swaps that work in any deck you open, see our under-$10 precon upgrade playbook.

Frequently asked questions

What colors is the Landing Party precon?

Bant: green, white and blue. Commander Spock is the face commander (named by Wizards on October 20, 2026), and the deck is themed on the Original Star Trek series. His ability word is strange new worlds, which counts the differently named lands you control. Landfall and explore are the expected support, dropping extra lands to trigger payoffs and ramp a wide board out faster than the table expects, but the full list confirms that on October 29. That plan makes it the most forgiving of the four.

Is Landing Party good for beginners?

Yes, it is the most beginner-friendly of the four Star Trek precons. A lands plan is intuitive to play and forgiving when you misplay it, and Bant gives you ramp, card draw and protection so you rarely run out of gas. It is also the cheapest to improve, since budget landfall cards are plentiful. New to the format? Read up on the ten table rules your pod will argue about first.

When does the Star Trek Landing Party deck release?

The Star Trek set releases November 13, 2026, but Wizards says North American Commander decks, including Landing Party, are delayed and may arrive after November 13, so check with your local game store. The deck is $74.99 MSRP, with a $159.99 Collector's Edition. Wizards showed the deck's colors and theme at the July 14, 2026 first look and previews it on October 29. Wizards named Commander Spock as the face commander on October 20, and the full decklist is not public yet.

How do you upgrade a landfall Commander deck on a budget?

Add more land drops, more payoffs and one finisher. About $4 buys Tatyova, Benthic Druid (under $1) for draw on every land drop, Oracle of Mul Daya (about $2) for an extra land drop plus lands off the top of your library, Felidar Retreat (about $1), Harrow (under $1) which triggers landfall twice, and Evolving Wilds (under $1). Prices checked October 11, 2026.
